Review: Waddy Wachtel Band at The Joint 1/5/09

Note from Nina:

I don't know what the weather's been like in the rest of the country, but it's been frrreeezzzing here in L.A. Us Sunny So. Cal. types can't handle the cold. Brrr!!

But one place it was very HOT last night was at The Joint with the Waddy Wachtel Band. As soon as the band hit the stage, we all began dis-robing. No, not completely! Nasty minds! LOL

Waddy, Phil, Rick, Bernard and Jamie wee soooo happy to be back up on that little stage - and it was evident by their big smiles and all the energy they put into every song. When I tell you thee guys never have an off night its the truth! Waddy says they will only give 1000% - and they do!

Lots of newbies showed up last night, and every one of them was totally thrilled and blown away by Waddy's exceptional guitar playing as well as the fantastic talents of Phil, Rick, Bernard and Jamie. I know they'll all be back, and the guys in the band really enjoyed all the energy and dancing that was fed back to them by all of us. We've got the best band - and the best audience!

Check out the great set lists.........

Other news:

The Waddy Wachtel Band won't be performing at The Joint next Monday 1/12/09, but they'll be back on the 19th. Replacing Rick Rosas (who's off on a short tour with Neil Young) on bass will be the incredible Al Ortiz - flying in from Phoenix to do the gig. Al definitely rocks!

I don't know when the multi-talented Brett Tuggle will be back rockin it up with WWB. He's in rehearsals for the next Fleetwood Mac tour. But we might get him back for a night or two.

Waddy's latest film - "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" starring Kevin James and co-produced by Adam Sandler with Happy Madison Productions - will open in the U.S. on 1/16/09. Waddy not only wrote the entire music score for the film, but played most of the instruments and worked on the final editing and mixing.

I'll be back next week with more updates.

Not many pics this week, as there was a camera operator (me) malfunction. If anyone else has pics from last night's gig, let me know.

Stay warm, and keep rockin'!!!!!!!!!

Review: Waddy Wachtel Band at The Joint 1/19/09

Note from NIna:

Yes, yes and yessss! Any of you who were at The Joint last night experiencing the Waddy Wachtel Band know what I'm talking about. My little note here can't possibly come close to sharing the excitement of all those wonderful notes the band sailed out at us last night.

Waddy Wachtel played every note on his guitars with perfection. In this venue, he can really let loose and wail all over those strings. It's hard to believe it was a trio playing the instruments - Waddy, Phil Jones (drums) and Al Ortiz (bass) - but that's one reason Waddy's so exceptional. He fills the whole room with sound. Just watching his fingers move is a moving experience.

The band played some new tunes last night - ones they hadn't played together before - and burned on each of them. The new tunes: "Suffragette City", "Immigration Song" and "Over the Hills and Far Away." A quick run-through of them in soundcheck, and then......... they played them perfectly. No wonder we all know we've found the BEST band around!

It was great having Al Ortiz come in from Arizona again to sit in for Rick Rosas. He's a true treasure, and listening to him play you know why he's allowed up there with WWB........ He's amazing!

Bernard Fowler and Jamie Savko let loose with mind blowing vocals, and the new songs they sing harmonies on are fantastic. What a great blend of voices.

Phil Jones never stops smiling. He delights all of us when he's banging on those drums.

Keith Allison kicked ass on the Cochran and Costello songs. He was getting over a bad flu, but you'd never know it. He got us all rockin' .

Waddy gave special praise to Warren Zevon, who would have celebrated a birthday this month. Before singing "Lawyers, Guns and Money", Waddy said: "This is for you, Z. Love ya!"

1. "All Down the Line" (Rolling Stones) Jamie Savko lead vocals; Waddy Wachtel harmony vocals

4. "I Need To Know" (Tom Petty) Bernard lead vocals; Waddy harmony vocals
5. "Girl's Got Rhythm" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals; Waddy harmony vocals
6. "Somethin' Else" (Eddie Cochran) Keith Allison lead vocals
7. "Pump It Up" (Elvis Costello) Keith lead vocals
8. "Lawyers Guns and Money" (Warren Zevon) Waddy lead vocals
9. "Jumpin" Jack Flash" (Rolling Stones) Bernard lead vocals; Jamie and Waddy harmony vocals

1. "You Shook Me" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals; Waddy harmony vocals
2. "Immigrant Song" (Led Zeppelin) Jamie lead vocals
3. "Jail Break" (Thin Lizzy) Bernard lead vocals, Jamie and Waddy harmony vocals
4. "Heroes" (David Bowie) Bernard lead vocals; Waddy harmony vocals
5. "Over The Hills And Far Away" (Led Zeppelin) Jamie lead vocals

8. "Like a Rolling Stone" (Bob Dylan) Waddy Wachtel lead vocals
9. "Down Payment Blues" (AC/DC) Bernard lead vocals

Other news:

No gig next Monday 1/26/09. Waddy's gotta play jury duty roulette. Too bad we can't write him an excuse note...... we NEED him! :-)

I'll let you know as soon as the next gig is confirmed. We'll definitely be rockin' in February.

Gary Simson and his pal were taking videos of the gig last night and doing some interviews of the guys...... In preparation for finishing the documentary on the Waddy Wachtel Band. More info on that as it evolves.

"Paul Blart: Mall Cop" with music score by Waddy Wachtel was top of the charts last weekend. It opened Friday night.

No pics from the gig. Sorry. The lighting at the club was kinda dim and besides...... I was having too much fun dancing! Carl took some videos and we'll try to get one up later this week. Stay tuned.

Keep rockin' - all you wonderful friends.
Be back soon!
