Review: Waddy Wachtel Band at The Joint 7/6/09

Note from Nina:

First off.......... YES the Waddy Wachtel Band will be rockin’ the roof off of The Joint next Monday July 13. No gig on July 20, but they’ll be back again on July 27. It’s gonna be a HOT July! Yay!

I promised you that the Waddy Wachtel Band would be setting off their own brand of fireworks at The Joint on 7/6/09, and they sure delivered! It was a splendid, delightful and loud display of electrifying music. You know how when you watch a fireworks show, each explosion in the sky seems more fantastic than the one before? Lots of ooohhhs and ahhhs? Well, that’s what it was like at last night’s gig......... Each tune they played got everyone going:....... YEAH!!!!

Rick Rosas returned to join Waddy Wachtel, Phil Jones, Jamie Savko and Keith Allison on our little stage (little compared to the size of the venues he played on tour with Neil Young) and let out all the stops wailing on that bass. Everyone is so happy to have him back! Rick doesn’t say much on stage, but at the beginning of the night he dedicated the performance to Charlie Wood - WWB’s wonderful equipment guy. Sweet Rick! And one of the best bass players around...... For sure!

We were treated to lots of Waddy and Jamie vocals last night...... Such incredible harmonies. And a new song was added they really rocked on: The Beatles’ “Paperback Writer”. Harmonies swirling above, below, through each other like one of those fireworks that seem to cover the whole sky!

Keith Allison paid tribute to Drake Levin - former guitarist with Keith in Paul Revere and the Raiders - who died Saturday in San Francisco after a long bout with cancer. Keith rocked us all with their song “Just Like Me” in memorium. So many of our dear rockin’ friends have left us..... And we keep their memory alive by enjoying their music and being so very grateful for having those who are still with us. Let’s say thank you every day!

All the guys were fantastic last night. Definitely the best musical fireworks display anyone could wish for. A big thank you to the band and all of you rockers who were there to pump it up with us!
As Waddy always says: “You’re the best audience in town!”

Oh...... I have to mention one other tune that blew my socks off. “Eight Miles High.” The Byrds might have laid down the groundwork for that tune, but Waddy’s incredible guitar solos on it take it to another level....... A VERY high one! Add Rick’s fast throbbing bass, Phil’s bright drums and Jamie’s and Waddy’s thrilling vocal harmonies.......... Explosions!

Review: Waddy Wachtel Band at The Joint 7/13/09

Note from Nina:

First.........
The Waddy Wachtel Band will not be performing next Monday 7/20/09, but will return Monday 7/27/09 in full rockin’ force - and Bernard Fowler will be back with them that night.

Now........
The Waddy Wachtel Band gave us another wonderful night of great rock ‘n’ roll at The Joint last night 7/13/09.

Some highlights of the night......

I was told by Mike (a WWB regular) to be sure to mention Waddy’s burnin’ guitar solo on Neil Young’s tune “Loner.” Oh yesss! I’d already made a note of it myself. AND..... Waddy’s lead vocals on that tune, complimented by Jamie singing the high parts, with Phil and Rick effortlessly setting down the tempo changes, gave everyone big rockin’ smiles and dancin’ feet.

Blondie Chaplin returned to join WWB on several tunes last night. He’s baaaack! And in great form. Blondie not only sang lead on a few tunes, but played guitar (soloing as well) and rattled the tambourine and maracas happily through the night. He made everyone happy to see him again.

Jason Sinay popped in unexpectedly and delightfully surprised everyone by singing two songs in the second set and doing some wonderful guitar solos as well. Jason always rocks, and it’s great to have him up there with the band. It was Jason’s Birthday yesterday, and when I told him “Happy Birthday!” he said there’s no place else he’d rather go to celebrate his B-Day than rockin’ it up with WWB...... and us!

Yes, folks, it was a beautiful burnin’ night of luscious loud rock ‘n’ roll!!!!!!!!

In the set list, I only mention who does the vocals and additional instruments played, but these are the guys up there for the whole night:
