Review: Waddy Wachtel Band 10/25/10

Note from Nina:

We had a great crowd turn out for the Waddy Wachtel Band gig at The Joint last night 10/25/10 - rockers one and all...... and so many of you were there. I could tell from your smiling faces and clapping hands that everyone got steamed up when WWB Rocked Us Up. Yes, they sure did!!!

The Waddy Wachtel Band doesn’t feel like they have to start with slower tunes then lead up to rockier stuff later. They started off the night with “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” - oh yessss..... we were jumpin’ with them. Waddy Wachtel showed that not only is he a fantastic guitarist, but he’s also an exceptional singer with his lead vocals. After the song, Waddy said: “We like to start with the pretty tunes.” :-)

How do you follow such a great rockin’ song? With another great rockin’ song! Jamie Savko wailed through lead vocals on “Girl’s Got Rhythm” while Rick Rosas (just back from performing with Buffalo Springfield and Neil Young) whipped his bass into action and Phil Jones (back on stage after his recent illness) banged delightfully on the drums showing he’s back in perfect health (Yay!).

No let up for these wonderful rockers........ They blasted through the first set, with Brett Tuggle moving from keyboards to guitar to vocals - thrilling everyone. And Keith Allison definitely thrilled everyone with his vocals and guitar playing...... as usual!

A special treat on top of all that.......
Mindi Abair joined the band blowing us away as she blew on that saxophone. And this gorgeous woman can sing too! We’re happy to say she’ll be back with WWB often. The woman can ROCK! Lucky us.
A few notes about Mindi...... Mindi joined Waddy and Adam Sandler on their 21 day tour in 1996 as part of The Goat Band - singing background vocals - and she also appeared in an HBO special with them. When she told Waddy she also played sax, he and Adam got her to play sax and sing on Adam’s next album “What’s Your Name” in 1997. Mindi has played on lots of albums and has released some albums of her own songs as well.

Another special guest......
Joe Vitale took Phil’s drum throne for “Honky Tonk Women” while Phil played along on cowbell. Joe just returned from performing with Rick Rosas and Buffalo Springfield. He, Rick and Waddy were in Joe Walsh’s band - recording and touring - in 1983. Joe has played on tons of albums with others, and it was a delight to have him up there banging and crashing those drums with WWB.

One more note......
I heard the Kinks version of “Till The End Of The Day” on the radio last week. It’s a great tune, and the Kinks were a great band. But I realized...... WWB rocked that tune to new heights! They do that with every song they play.
That’s why we keep coming back for..... MORE!!!!!
